కేంద్ర సాహిత్య అకాడమీ అవార్డు, తెలుగు విశ్వ విద్యాలయం గౌరవడాక్టరేటు ముఖ్య పురస్కారాలు.
గుంటూరు ఎ.సి. కాలేజీ నుంచి పట్టభద్రులు. మద్రాసు లాకాలేజీ నుంచి ‘లా’ డిగ్రీ.
ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ ప్రభుత్వంలోమున్సిపల్ కమీషనరుగా పనిచేసి, పదవీ విరమణ వేశారు.

“గుంటూరు శేషేంద్ర శర్మ నా దేశం నా ప్రజలు (1975) ఆధునిక ఇతిహాసంగా చెప్పబడింది. అభివ్యక్తిలో, ఆలంకారికతలో, వస్తు విన్యాసంలో కవి తనదైన వ్యక్తిత్వాన్ని ముద్రించుకున్నాడు. విప్ణవభాషా విధాతగా పేరుగన్నాడు. ఈయన కవిసేన మేనిఫెస్టో (1977) పేరుతో ఆధునిక కావ్యశా!స్తాన్ని కూడా రచించి నేటి యువతరాన్ని ఆకర్షిస్తున్నాడు. పద్యాల్గో వచన కవితా ప్రక్రియలో కావ్యాలనేకంగా రచిస్తూ సమకాలిక కవితారంగంలో శిఖరాయమానంగా వెలుగుతున్నాడు. కొంగ్రొత్త (ప్రయోగాలతో కావ్యభాషా స్వరూపంలో మార్చుతెస్తున్న ఆధునిక వాగనుశాసనుడు శేషేంద్ర.”

A revolutionary poet who spurned the pedestrian and pedantic poetry equally, a brilliant critic and a scholar of Sanskrit, this versatile poet has breathed a new vision of modernity to his vernacular.Such minds place Telugu on the world map of intellectualism.
